True Beauty: It’s What’s Inside That Counts

In a world where we often judge people by their appearances, it’s easy to be fooled into thinking beauty is all about how someone looks on the outside. Advertisements, movies, and social media constantly push the idea that beauty is skin deep. But what if I told you that true beauty goes beyond what we see on the surface?

The Candy Wrapper: A Shiny Outer, But What’s Inside?

Think of beauty like a candy bar. The wrapper might be shiny, colorful, and eye-catching. But once you unwrap it, what’s inside is what truly matters. If it’s filled with something unpleasant, no matter how attractive the wrapper is, you won’t want to take a bite.

In the same way, outward beauty is just the wrapper. We all know someone who looks great on the outside, but their personality might not be as sweet. Conversely, we may meet someone who’s not the most “beautiful” by the world’s standards, but their warmth, kindness, and love make them truly attractive.

1 Samuel 16:7 reminds us, “The Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” God values what’s inside, not the external. It's the heart that matters most to Him.

Outward Appearance vs. Inner Value

Take a look at **Proverbs 31:30**, which tells us, *“Charm is deceitful, and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.”* This verse emphasizes that true beauty is rooted in our relationship with God, not in how we look or what we wear. Our character, our faith, and the way we treat others—these are the things that God sees as beautiful.

God Chooses the Unlikely

When we look at the Bible, we see that God doesn’t choose people based on their outward appearances. Take **Moses**, a murderer and someone with a stuttering problem, yet God used him to lead His people out of Egypt. Or **David**, the shepherd boy, overlooked by his family, who became a mighty king.

*1 Corinthians 1:27* says, *“But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise; and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty.”* God often chooses those who seem "unqualified" by the world’s standards because He looks at the heart.

Conclusion: True Beauty Lies Within

So, the next time you judge someone by their appearance or focus on your own outer beauty, remember: *True beauty is not skin deep*. It’s about what’s inside—the kindness, the love, the humility, and the faith that shines through. Just like the candy wrapper, outward beauty can fade, but inner beauty only grows stronger over time.

Let’s embrace the beauty that comes from within. Let’s seek to build character, love others, and reflect God’s image in everything we do. Because, in the end, it’s the heart that truly matters.
