How Faith Works: Framing and Forming through the Word and Spirit of God
Faith is more than belief; it is the active process of bringing God's promises into reality. In Hebrews 11:3, we learn that "through faith, we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear." This verse highlights that faith operates by framing and forming what is unseen into the visible world through God’s Word and Spirit.
To understand how faith works, we must go back to the beginning, where God demonstrated the very process of faith in creation.
Framing the World with the Word of God
Genesis 1:1-3 describes how God created everything: "In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, 'Let there be light,' and there was light."
In the beginning, God created through His Word. There was a void, yet God framed the world with His spoken Word, bringing order and life from nothing. John 1:1 reinforces this by saying, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." The Word is not just a concept but the very expression of God’s power and purpose.
Faith works the same way in us. When we activate faith, we begin to "frame" our lives and circumstances by speaking God's Word. This isn’t just about positive thinking; it is about aligning our words with the living Word of God—Christ within us. The Word of God, which is Christ, provides the framework for our faith, shaping the things that we desire to see in our lives.
Forming Reality with the Spirit of God
While the Word frames, the Spirit forms. When God spoke creation into existence, His Spirit moved upon the waters, taking what was framed by the Word and bringing it into reality. The Spirit of God is the active power that brings God’s Word to life.
For faith to work in us, we must allow the Holy Spirit to form what has been framed by the Word of God. The Holy Spirit resides in us as believers, ready to move and bring life to the promises God has spoken. Just as God’s Spirit hovered over the waters, waiting for the Word to be spoken, the Holy Spirit works in us, forming what we declare in faith.
Faith Works Through Agreement
Faith is activated when our heart, mind, and mouth are aligned with the Word and Spirit of God. For faith to work, these elements must be in agreement:
1. Heart Agreement with the Word of God: The heart is where faith begins. Romans 10:10 says, "For with the heart, man believes unto righteousness." When we believe in our hearts, we accept God's Word as truth, establishing the foundation for faith.
2. Mind Agreement with the Spirit of God: The mind must align with the Spirit, perceiving what God is doing and moving in harmony with Him. 1 Corinthians 2:16 tells us we have the "mind of Christ." Our thoughts should be guided by the Spirit, who reveals God’s truth and purpose to us. As our minds align with the Spirit, we are able to perceive the promises of God even before they become visible.
3. Mouth Agreement with the Word and Spirit: Our spoken words have the power to frame our reality. Proverbs 18:21 declares, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue." When we speak in agreement with God’s Word, we are framing our circumstances according to His promises. Just as God spoke light into darkness, we speak God's Word into every situation, creating the framework for the Spirit to work.
Framing and Forming in Agreement with God
To experience the fullness of faith, we must “frame” with the Word of God and “form” with the Spirit of God. Here’s how it works:
1. Frame it with the Word: The Word of God is the foundation. Jesus said, "If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you shall ask what you will, and it shall be done unto you" (John 15:7). To frame means to declare, to speak, and to align your heart with what God has already said.
- If you need provision, speak and declare God’s promises for provision (Philippians 4:19).
- If you need healing, declare God’s promises for healing (Isaiah 53:5).
By speaking God’s Word, you create the “frame” or blueprint, just as God framed the world by speaking.
2. Form it with the Spirit: Once you have framed with the Word, the Spirit of God moves to bring life to what you have declared. "The Spirit gives life" (John 6:63). We rely on the Spirit to turn our declarations into reality, as He aligns our thoughts and attitudes to trust God fully.
- Trust the Spirit to provide insight, guidance, and power to see the Word come alive.
- Listen to the Spirit’s leading; sometimes, He may prompt actions that bring about the manifestation of God’s promises in our lives.
How Faith Manifests in Our Lives
As we continue to speak and align with God’s Word, our faith grows stronger, and we begin to see His promises unfold. We begin to embody what we believe, becoming more like Christ and reflecting His power and glory. This is the process described in 2Corinthians 3:18, where we are transformed "from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord."
To put it simply, faith is a partnership with God. Without Christ, we can do nothing; He is the Word that frames our lives. And without the Spirit, we can do nothing; He is the one who forms and brings to life what we believe. When we frame with the Word and form with the Spirit, we are operating in the fullness of faith.
Conclusion: Faith in Action
Faith is not passive; it is active, intentional, and aligned with God’s will. To walk in faith, we must:
- Frame our lives with the Word of God by believing and declaring His promises.
- Form our reality with the Spirit of God by trusting in the Holy Spirit’s power to bring the Word to life.
Faith works when our heart, mind, and mouth are in agreement with God’s Word and Spirit. As we live this way, we will see God’s promises manifest in every area of our lives, not by our own strength, but by His power working within us.
Let faith become a lifestyle—a continuous framing with the Word and forming with the Spirit. This is how faith works: it brings the unseen into the seen, making God’s promises a tangible reality in our lives.
